A view of the Montmorency Falls and the British attack on the French entrenchments. French and Indian War (1754-63).
The view looks west with Quebec in the distance with the Île d’Orléans to the south and the Grenadiers, Townshend's and Murray's brigades having landed on the shores of the St Lawrence just west of Montmorency Falls, with Beauport and the French camp above them.
The artist of this view, Captain Hervey Smyth(e), who was ADC to General Wolfe, was wounded in the attack at Montmorency and also at the Battle of Quebec. He is credited with being one of the first military artists to produce views of Canada.
