A medium to high oblique view of the Battle of Wolfenbüttel, fought on 29 June 1641 between the Swedish and German (Weimar and Bavaria) allied armies commanded by Carl Gustaf Wrangel (23 December 1613-5 July 1676) and Hans Christoff von Königsmarck (4 March 1600-8 March 1663), and the Imperial army commanded by Archduke Leopold William of Austria (5 January 1614-20 November 1662) and Ottavio Piccolomini (11 November 1599-11 August 1656), resulting in a Swedish victory. Thirty Years War (1618-1648). Oriented with north to top. 

This print shows the besieged town of Wolfenbüttel, bottom centre, surrounded by the flood waters of the River Oker which had been dammed below the town from the middle of March. The great earth dam is marked with a reverse number 9, and the course of the submerged river is shown by dotted lines. The entrenched encampment of the besiegers is depicted near the village of Tige (Thiede 52°11ʹ00ʺN  10°29ʹ05ʺE).
