This issue of the Gazette accompanies the map at RCIN 730050.b and contains two mentions of the operations at Piacenza: A note from Venice, dated 29 June N.S. to the effect that the allied armies of France, Spain, Naples and Genoa had suffered losses of 14,000 men, dead and deserted; that the Spaniards were still in camp and had constructed two bridges across the Po and another over the Lambro, and had established an HQ at Lodi; the strength of the Austrian batteries firing on the city is given. Another notice dated from Vienna, 6 July gives an account, translated from German, of the victory of the Austrian army over the French and Spanish at the Battle of Piacenza, 16 June.
The red stamp which appears on pp.1 and 5 with the lettering 'SEMPER EADEM / HALF PENNY / 1346' and the red-stamped words 'half penny' refer to the Newspaper Tax which was imposed on serial publications costing 6d or less.
