A medium-scale topographical map showing the pontoon bridge constructed by the Austrians immediately south of Old Breisach. Many islands, some named, are shown in the river. The outlines of the demolished Ville Neuve and Fort St Jacques are indicated, together with the positions of French and Austrian troops. A projected extension of the fortifications of Nouveau Brisac is faintly engraved on the western side of the town.
This was part of the operations in the summer following the Battle of Dettingen (27 June 1743) in which the Allied armies unsuccessfully attempted to invade France by crossing the Rhine.

Condition: one fold line; discolouration along fold line; a tear, to the fold, bottom centre, repaired on verso with white paper strip [old repair]. Verso: surface dirt; bottom centre, large waterstained patch, fragments of paper, and ghosting [VOL IV], from the removal of Cumberland's cipher label.
