A map of encampment of the Allied army at Bouwel, 29 May-16 June 1747. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with north to top (cardinal points).

A rough sketch showing the positions of the encamped troops relative to the surrounding villages and extending from Lier (51°07'52"N 04°34'13"E) to the west and Herenthout (51°08'24"N 04°45'20"E) to the east, and Grobbendoncq (Grobbendonk 51°11'25"N 04°44'08"E) in the north to Eyst ten Bergh (Heist-op-den-Berg 51°04'31"N 04°43'41"E) in the south. The headquarters is marked at Bouwel. No regiments are named. Troop rectangles are coloured according to nationality: British (red), Hanoverian (yellow), and Austrian (green), Hessian (pale blue), Dutch (orange).

Condition: four fold lines; bottom left, a large old tear, repaired by laying down on linen; some brown staining. Verso: foxing; top left, water-stained patch and shadow from the removal of Cumberland's cipher label.
