A map of the encampment and field fortifications of part of the French army in the vicinity of Fromont, 1747. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with west to top (compass rose).

The area around the former settlement of Fromont appears, today, to be the site of opencast mineral excavation. These French camps were occupied until the beginning of October 1747. The map extends from Wanck (Wonck 50°46'00"N 05°38'10"E) in the north to Vivenis (Vivegnis 50°41'32"N 05°38'51"E) in the south, and from Houtain (Houtain-Saint-Siméon 50°44'24"N 05°36'44"E) in the west to Vizet (Visé 50°44'15"N 05°41'56"E) in the east.
