Pen and ink on three sheets of paper giving nine-and-a-quarter sides of writing | 24.0 x 37.1 cm (sheet; folded to 24.0 x 18.5 cm) | RCIN 729076.a

A journal of the dispositions of the Allied army, and of the French activity, near Koblenz from 29 April to 31 May 1745. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48).

The author [J.C.Treu] states that he last wrote to an unnamed recipient on 28 April when the army was at Ehrenbreitstein. He gives a detailed account of the dispositions of the various detachments and regiments, and of French activity during this period.

The three items at RCINs 729076.a-c were formerly housed in a buff rag paper folder which had the old heading on the front: 'Encampments of Feldt-kirchen and Mulickhoven and Journal of the operations of the Allied Army from the 29.th April to the 31.st May 1745'. An ink inscription: 'No.s 418-420' refers to the numbers stamped in black on the items; the black pencil inscription '(a-c) CMB Nov'86' [i.e. 1986] is written below the old heading in a modern hand.
