The attribution to Schultz, made in the old catalogue entry, is confirmed on stylistic grounds. A key to the colouring is given in a plain rectangular panel, bottom right: Austrians (green); English (red); Dutch (orange); Hanoverian (yellow); Hessian (dark blue). A plain rectangular panel, bottom left, has been left blank, perhaps for the later insertion of text. These encampments were formed the day after the Battle of Lafelt (2 July 1747) and lasted until the army went into winter quarters in early October.
Condition: multiple fold lines, several old repairs to tears on verso.
