A map of the encampment of the Allied army under the command of Duke d'Arenberg at Avelgem, 1 October 1744. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with west to top.

In the same hand as RCINs 729011-12, 729014, 729017, 729020-22, 729030, 729037-8, 729047-8, 729050-58. Another example of this map, in the same hand, is at RCIN 729050.

The encampment, on the west side of the River Escaut (Scheldt), extends for a distance of about 9.5 km (6 miles) from Avelgem in the north, south-westwards through Hautrive (Outrijve 50°45'27"N 03°25'46"E), Bossutt (Bossuit 50°44'54"N 03°24'29"E), Helchin (Helkijn 50°43'55"N 03°23'02"E) to Espierre (Spiere 50°43'08"N 03°21'22"E). Troops are coloured according to nationality: British (red), Hanoverian (yellow), Dutch (blue), Austrian (green). The British, Hanoverian, Dutch and Austrian artillery park is sited on the east side of the Escaut just north of Esconaffe (Escanaffles 50°45'26"N 03°27'10"E).
