A map of the encampment of the Allied army between Herenthout and Beringen, 1747. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with north to top (compass rose).

The map covers a corridor of ground running from Herenthout in the north-west, following the march routes of the army (shown by pecked lines) between Prince Wolfenbuttel's camp at Zoerle (Zoerle-Parwijs 51°05'22"N 04°52'15"E), to ‘Baronay's Camp’ a little distance to the north-east of Zichem (51°00'06"N 04°58'59"E). The coverage continues south-east to Diest (50°59'21"N 05°03'02"E) and then turns north-east to Beringen. Generalised indications of cultivated land are given by irregularly-shaped enclosures, woods comprise groups of individually drawn trees, and open land is sketched in. Differences of elevation are roughly indicated by hachures.

Condition: two fold lines; corners rounded after being laid down on linen. Verso: some foxing; bottom, right of centre: water-stained patch and shadow from the removal of Cumberland's cipher label.
