Map of encampment at Hulten, 1748 (Hulten, North Brabant, Netherlands) 51°34'21"N 4°57'15"E

1748 or later

Pencil, pen, ink and watercolour on paper | Scale: 1:19,000 approx. | RCIN 731018

A map of the encampment of the Dutch army, under the command of Count Maurice of Nassau, at Hulten near Breda, 7 May 1748. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with north to top.

The regiments are named. The distinction between the heathland, on which the army is encamped (the title of RCIN 731017 states that the camp was on the heaths at Hulten) and cultivated land is clear. Damp or wet grassland is shown by a dark green wash.
