Map of encampment at Mutterstadt, 1743 (Mutterstadt, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany) 49°26'29"N 08°21'22"E
c.1743Pencil, pen, ink and watercolour on paper; laid down on rag paper | Scale: not stated | RCIN 728126
A rough, quick sketch of the layout of the encampment of the Allied army along the north side of Gross Schifferstadt (Schifferstadt 49°23'14"N 08°22'29"E). Regimental rectangles appear to be coloured according to nationality: British (red), Austrians (green), and Hanoverians/Hessians (orange or dark yellow). The pencilled numbers against some of the lines of the camp probably refer to the linear extent of each, expressed in unknown units. This sketch, and the more finished sketch which was compiled from it (RCIN 728125) would have formed part of the compilation materials for RCIN 728103.
Condition: one fold line; creased; surface dirt.
