A map of the encampment of the Allied army at Schilde, 14-28 May 1747. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with west to top (compass rose).

This map covers a greater area than those at RCINs 730107-8, and extends from Braxgratten (Brasschat 51°17'28"N 04°29'30"E) in the north to Lier (51°07'52"N 04°34'13"E) in the south, and from Borsbeck (Borsbeek 51°11'47"N 04°29'07"E) in the west to Op d' Lucht north-east of St Antoine in the east, a north-south distance of about 20 km (12.4 miles). None of the regiments is named and they are amalgamated into groups, coloured according to nationality: British (red); Hanoverian (yellow); Hessian (pale blue); Dutch (orange), and Austrians (green). The headquarters of the principal commanding officers are marked.

Condition: one fold line; trimmed after laying down on linen and corners rounded; foxing and surface dirt top right edge; ink smudges to title. Verso: foxing; top left water-stained patch and shadow from the removal of Cumberland's cipher label.
