A map of the encampment of the Allied army along the River Escaut (Scheldt) in June and July 1744. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with west-north-west to top (compass rose). In the same hand as RCIN 729036.

The encampments are chiefly on the east side of the River Escaut, near Oudenaarde (50°51'06"N 03°36'32"E), between Mulne (Melden, 50°48'52"N 03°33'55"E) in the south and Gavere (50°55'45"N 03°39'42") in the north. The fortified lines at the bridgehead at Gavere are shown, together with the extent of woodland, the marshy inundations south of Oudenaarde, the river terrace to each side of the river valley, and a diagrammatic indication of fields. The nationalities of the troops are represented by the following colours: British (red), Hanoverian (yellow), Austrian (green), Dutch (blue).
