A map of the French encampment at Courtrai [Kortrijk] from 18 May to 18 July 1744. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with west-north-west to top (compass rose).

The camp was commanded by Lieutenant-General Jacques Gabriel Louis Le Clerc de Juigné (1727-1807). This was a substantial encampment on both sides of the River Lys. Regiments are named.

Condition: one fold line; bottom left corner crumpled; brown staining; surface dirt to both sides. Verso: bottom, right of centre: water-stained patch, remains, shadow and ghosting from the removal of Cumberland's cipher label; induced discolouration.
