Map of River Lahn, 1745

1745 or later

Pen and ink on paper | Scale: not stated | RCIN 729067

An outline map of the cantonments of the Hanoverian army south of the River Lahn in March 1745. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with north-west to top. The attribution to Schultz is made on stylistic grounds.

The northern boundary of the area, which is present-day Hesse, is marked by the River Lahn, between Limburg (Limburg an der Lahn 50°23'00"N 08°03'00"E) in the west, and Weilburg (50°29'06"N 08°16'39"E) in the east. The southernmost town shown is Anspach (50°18'03"N 08°30'36"E). Regimental names are marked in red ink against the places where they were cantoned.
