Prince Charles Alexander, Duke of Lorraine was the brother-in-law of Maria Theresa of Austria and was Governor of the Austrian Netherlands from 1740-80. This campsite was located between Hasselt and Zonhoven. None of the regiments or commanding officers is identified. Apart from Hasselt and Zonhoven, the only other place-name included on this map is Curingen (Kuringen 50°56'39"N 05°17'56"E).
In the same hand as RCIN 730056. The draughtsman has distinguished, by different symbols, three main categories of land use. The sets of straight and dotted lines, placed at different angles, represent ploughed or cultivated land; according to the explanatory text in the title panel, the left wing was situated next to a stream which was bordered by marshy grasslands. Thus the symbol of a line of three or four dots indicates marshy land, while the remaining symbol resembling tufts of grass represents drier land, probably heath.
