A map of the posts and cantonments of the Hanoverian forces on the Rhine, in 1745. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with south to top.

The area covered extends from Ehringshausen (Hesse, Germany 50°36'00"N 08°23'00"E) in the north to Mainz in the south, and from the Rhine in the west to Lich (Hesse, Germany 50°31'14"N 08°49'01"E). Dotted lines mark boundaries between different political units which are named; straight lines, drawn in red, blue, orange, yellow, green and black appear to indicate groups of settlements, each marked with an upper case letter which refers to the key, top right.
