published 1741Etched and engraved maps with three title-pages. The maps are bound in an oblong volume in brown leather; upper board with gold tooled cipher of George III; lower board with same design; spine with five raised bands, each with gold tooled rolled pattern, and gold tooled decorations between | 19.3 x 25.5 cm (sheet) | RCIN 727041
A volume of printed maps of military campaigns and encampments in Germany during 1733-1735. War of Polish Succession (1733-8).
Each page is numbered, top right. All numbered maps are blank on the verso. The maps are catalogued individually. This appears to be an early state: folio 47 lacks the numeration ‘47, / 48 / et / 49’ which appears on the digitised example from Lausanne University: (last accessed 29 June 2016).
It is possible that the ‘Mr Cokayne’ who is referred to on the recto of the second front flyleaf is William Cokayne (1717-1798), a clergyman who held the chair of astronomy at Gresham College, London between 1752 and 1795.
