The date of 6 August-13 September for the beginning of the siege and surrender of the fortress is taken from Ostwald (2007), p.343.
The map shows the lines of circumvallation, the Allied camps, the French entrenchments and the surrounding topography. The coverage extends from Douay (Douai 50°22'00"N 03°04'00"E) in the north-west, to Bouvignies (50°26'10"N 03°14'37"E) further north, moving south to Warlin (Warlaing 50°24'36"N 03°19'30"E) in the north-east, and from Railecourt (Raillencourt-Sainte-Olle 50°11'00"N 03°10'00"E) and Sailly (Sailly-lez-Cambrai 50°11'15"N 03°10'55"E) in the south-west to Avêne le Gobert (Avesnes-les-Aubert 50°12'00"N 03°23'00"E) in the south-east.
Another printing of this map, lacking Johnson's imprint, was published in 1747 in Jean Dumont & Jean Rousset de Missy, (1729).
