The map shows the positions of the Allied batteries at Liefkenmores to the north of Ostend (now part of the harbour area), and the siegeworks to the south, the encampment of the Allied army extending southwards from Marie-kerck (Mariakerke 51°12'44"N 02°52'57"E) on the coast, and at Walravesyde (possibly Raversijde 51°12'20"N 02°51'43"E), the saltmarshes are distinctly shown, and the fire from the two Royal Navy bomb ketches offshore is indicated.
