The map shows in detail the layout of the town and the fortifications and siegeworks, the lines of fire from the batteries, and some of the surrounding country. Apart from a few religious buildings such as cloisters, the only named settlement is Lorette (50°38'01"N 03°47'54"E) to the north-east. Relief is shown by hachures produced by using dry brushwork.
