Map of Trier, 1704-5 (Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany) 49°45'20"N 06°38'21"E

1705 or later

Pencil, pen, ink and watercolour on paper | Scale: 1:5,200 approx. | RCIN 725044

A map of the town and environs of Trier, showing the siegeworks of the Palatinate and Westphalian army commanded by Lieutenant-General Aubach who abandoned the siege in 1705. War of the Spanish Succession (1701-14). Oriented with west-north-west to top.

This plan appears to have been removed from a volume of manuscript maps and plans of sieges. Other maps, in the same hand and, apparently, from the same volume, are scattered throughout the collection: RCINs 725009, 725011, 725013, 725021, 725023, 725030. This map appears to be in the same hand as the other maps in this atlas, but the gilt edges are not present on the left, top or right edges; it is possible that they have been trimmed off.

Additional text: [below title, in title panel, a key, A, b-f, G-H, to the the lines, redoubt on the island, old bridge and ship bridge, etc.]
