A view of the siege of Gibraltar, 14 September 1782. American War of Independence (1775-83): Great Siege of Gibraltar (21 June 1779-7 February 1783). The original painting by James Jefferys is in the Government Art Collection, GAC number 13461.

The uniformed figure standing in one of the boats, left of centre, is General Eliott, Governor of Gibraltar, directing his men to rescue the Spanish troops who were defeated following their abortive attack on the fortress with their floating batteries.

Condition: one fold line.
