A view of the disembarking of the Dutch army, commanded by Maurice of Nassau (14 November 1567-23 April 1625), on the Flanders coast on 22 June 1600. The Eighty Years War (Dutch War of Independence) (1568-1648).

Maurice was ordered by the States General, against his better judgment, to continue the conquest of the coastal strip of Flanders as far south as Nieuport and Dunkirk instead of taking the inland towns of Bruges and Ghent. This view shows the Dutch forces, which had assembled at Zeeland, crossing the Scheldt with a fleet of 8,000 ships and landing on the shores of Flanders at Philippine (51°16ʹ51ʺN  03°45ʹ35ʺE) and Sas van Gent (51°13ʹ39ʺN  03°47ʹ55ʺE). The view is taken from the north, looking south towards Ghent (51°03ʹ00ʺN  03°43ʹ00ʺE), Assenede (51°13ʹ34ʺN  03°45ʹ03ʺE), Eeklo (51°11ʹ13ʺN  03°33ʹ24ʺE), Watervliet (51°16ʹ30ʺN  03°37ʹ34ʺE), and Brugge (51°12ʹ32ʺN  03°13ʹ27ʺE). The disembarked troops are shown marching into Flanders.
