1635 or laterEtching and engraving; printed on the same sheet of paper as the letterpress text; mounted on paper (Mount Type A); gilt edges top and right | 24.0 x 34.0 cm (neatline) | RCIN 722097
A high oblique view of the siege of Sachsenhausen in August 1635 by Wilhelm, Graf von Lamboy (c.1590-d. 12 December 1659), commanding the Imperial army by whom the town was captured on 21 August. Thirty Years War (1618-1648). Oriented with south to top.
The pattern of offsetting on the verso suggests that the text was printed before the map because the offsetting does not include the map.
This appears to be a reverse copy of the print which was published between pages 464 and 465 in Merian's Theatrum Europaeum (1639).
