A view with letterpress text of Spanish-held Tortona, defended by Major-General Don Bernardino Galleott, and besieged by the French and surrendered on 26 November 1642. Franco-Spanish War (1635-1659). Oriented with east-south-east to top.

The print shows the quarters and trenches made by Thomas Francis, Prince of Carignano (Thomas of Savoy; 21 December 1596-22 January 1656) who, just a few months earlier, having fought with the Spanish, had changed sides and now supported the French, commanding Piedmontese troops who were fighting alongside the French under Henri II d’Orléons, duc de Longueville (6 April 1595-11 May 1663), whose quarters and fortifications are also shown in this view. The location of the unsuccessful Spanish relief attempt on 17 November is also shown.
