Letterpress account of the operations of the Combined army (Prussia, Austria, Hesse) in northern France in 1792. French Revolutionary Wars (1792-1802): War of the First Coalition (1792-8)

Dedicated to Charles Philippe, comte d'Artois (1757-1836), later Charles X of France, this memoir gives a detailed account of the campaign of the combined Prussian, Austrian and Hessian army under the command of Charles William Ferdinand, Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (1735-1806), in northern France from August to October 1792. The memoir is accompanied by a map (RCIN 735007.1.b) the conventions and abbreviations of which are explained in the text.

The comte d'Artois came to England in 1792 and it is possible that he, or his ADC, brought with him the source materials for the compilation of the map which accompanied this memoir. The Aides-de-Camp to the comte in 1792 included the future General Jacques Anne Joseph Le Prestre Vauban (1754-1816) grandson of Antoine Le Prestre de Vauban.
