A map of an encampment of Hessian troops near Bettenhausen, at a review by George II (1683-1760) on 30 July 1729. Oriented with north-east to top (cardinal points).

This encampment and review took place during George II’s first visit to Hanover as King of Great Britain.

The location of this encampment is on an area of former heathland south-west of Bettenhausen (marked as Pettenhausen on the map) to the east of Kassel. The paper mill was marked on later maps (e.g. Therbu's Affaire de Sandershausen (1758) at RCIN 731067.al.) and a paper factory exists in the same locality today. The roads are annotated with their destinations: ‘Münden’ probably refers to Hedemünden (51°23ʹ24ʺN 09°45ʹ47ʺE); Ochshausen is now a part of the the area of Lohfelden (51°16ʹ00ʺN 09°32ʹ00ʺE).
