1729 or later

Pencil, pen, ink and watercolour on paper; a different troop position is drawn on a paper flap which is pasted down to the face of the map | Scale: not stated | RCIN 727030.e

A map showing the manoeuvres of the Hanoverian army in 1729 at Hanover.

The site of these manoeuvres was on the heathlands to the east of Hanover, in the area of the Eilenriede forests, in the vicinity of the Pferdeturm, a medieval tower. The manoeuvres shown here, were probably undertaken for one of several military reviews undertaken by George II during his first visit to Hanover as King of Great Britain in the summer of 1729.
