Pen, ink and watercolour on paper; considerable pricking through | Scale: 1:7,000 approx. | RCIN 727017

A map of the siege of Ceuta by the Moors, commanded by Moulay Ismail (d.1727) in 1720, successfully defended by the Spanish, commanded by Jean François de Bette, marquis de Lede (1672-1725). Oriented with west to top.

James Wybault, to whom the draughtsmanship of this map is tentatively attributed, is the only Practitioner Engineer with the initial ‘J.W.’ listed by Conolly for this period. According to Conolly, Wybault became a Practioner Engineer on 22 September 1722, two years after the action portrayed on this map.
