Map of Eppingen and the Rhine, 1696 (Eppingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany) 49°08ʹ11ʺN 08°54ʹ44ʺE

1742 or later

Pencil, pen, ink and watercolour on paper | Scale: 1:55,000 approx. | RCIN 724084

A map of the French and Allied armies between Philippsburg on the Rhine and Eppingen in 1696. Nine Years War (1688-97). Oriented with north to top.

The map extends from Philippsburg (49°13ʹ54ʺN 08°27ʹ39ʺE) in the west, through Bruchsal (49°07ʹ27ʺN 08°35ʹ53ʺE), to Eppingen in the east. It is likely that this map was copied in the 1740s from either original material produced by the French military engineer, C.D. Voisin, or from other copies of it. Another manuscript example of this map is at RCIN 724085.
