Map of the Battle of Entzheim, 1674 (Entzheim, Alsace, France) 48°31ʹ56ʺN 07°38ʹ00ʺE
c.1674Etching and engraving; printed on paper; hand-coloured | Scale: not stated. Not to scale. | RCIN 724011
The annotations on the verso of this map imply that it was published within a month of the battle having taken place. It is more an order of battle diagram, ornamented with scenes from the battle, than it is a conventional map. The names of the regiments are written against some of the rectangles which represent the squadrons and battalions of the armies. The French forces are coloured in blue; the Imperial army is coloured in dark red.
The map extends from Wolsheim or Wolfzheim (Wolfisheim, Alsace, France 48°35ʹ14ʺN 07°40ʹ01ʺE) and Strasbourg (48°35ʹ01ʺN 07°44ʹ53ʺE) in the north, through Holtzheim (48°33ʹ30ʺN 07°38ʹ40ʺE) to Entzheim in the south.
