A high oblique view of the unsuccessful Turkish siege of the fortress on the little island of Souda in Souda Bay, north-west Crete, on 21 July 1646, showing the Venetian relief fleet at the mouth of the bay. Souda island remained in Venetian hands until the early eighteenth century. Cretan War (Fifth Ottoman-Venetian War) (1645-1669). Oriented with north to top (compass rose).
The date 1647 which is given in the George III heading would appear to be a mistake.
