A map of the Battle of Hastenbeck, fought 26 July 1757, between the Allied and French Armies, resulting in a French victory. Seven Years War (1756-63). Oriented with north-west to top (cardinal points). Care has been taken in the depiction of relief in this map; the hachures distinguish, by varying length and strength of the ink brush strokes, gentle from steep slopes.

According to the list of the Hanoverian arrmy at RCIN 733070, the author of this map, Lieutenant Pape, received his commission as Lieutenant in the Hanoverian Engineers on 30 July 1762, suggesting that the date of execution of this map was no earlier than 1762. Even if it is a copy by A.H. du Plat of the original by Pape, which may have been done earlier, the reference to him as Lieutenant makes the date of the map 1762 or later, if the table at RCIN 733070 is correct.

The key to the conventional signs used to represent the troops is given on N.o XXXII, headed 'Remarques' (RCIN 732200.ag). The troop rectangles are coloured according to nationality: Hanoverian (red), Prussian (green), Brunswickian (yellow), Hessian (blue), French (lilac).
