Map of the Battle of Vellinghausen, 1761 (Vellinghausen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) 51°39'47"N 07°59'12"E

Etching and engraving; printed from one copperplate on one sheet of paper; flap printed from a separate plate on a separate sheet of paper, pasted to the base map; hand coloured | Scale: 1:22,700 approx. | RCIN 732001.v

A map of the Battle of Vellinghausen, fought between the Allied army under the command of Prince Ferdinand of Brunswick, and the French, commanded by Prince Soubise and Marshal Broglio, 15-16 July 1761, resulting in a victory for the Allied army. Seven Years War (1756-63). Oriented with east to top.

A paper flap, showing different troop positions during the battle, is pasted to the base map. The pasting position for the flap is indicated by engraved pecked lines on the base map. The detail is fainter than the base map and may have been printed from a worn plate. Another example of this map is at RCIN 733036.
