Etching and engraving; printed on paper; hand coloured. Each map with accompanying letterpress text, (except for the fifth, the text to which appears to be missing); tied together to form a small booklet; two ties, one missing. It is possible that the plans were engraved on one long copperplate and then cut up. Similarly, it is possible that the text was also printed on one sheet and then cut up. The set contains the following maps:

Map 1:

The map is followed by letterpress text: COMBAT DE SANDERSHAUSEN, PRÈS DE CASSEL, / entre l'avant-garde de l'Armée de Soubise aux ordres de M. le Duc / de Broglie; Lieutenant Général, & le corps des troupes Hessoises, / commandées par M. le Prince d'Ysembourg. / le 23 Juillet 1758. Creator: [bottom left of map, inside neatline:] de Lanselles.

The map is preceded by letterpress text on the left facing page giving the explanation to the letters and numbers on the map and includes details of the First and Second Lines of the order of battle and the expositions of the French and Hessian troops. The map is a skeleton outline showing only the rivers, streams and main roads as well as troop positions.

Map 3:
Title: [taken from letterpress text on facing page:] Mouvemens après la premiere position des deux corps d'Armées. [Top right of map, outside border:] N.o 3.

Creator: [bottom left of map, inside neatline:] de Lanselles.

The map is followed by letterpress text on the right facing page, giving a key, 1-7, A-I, K-P, to the actions and positions of the troops during their preparations to move. The map is the same skeleton outline as no. 2, with different troop positions.

Map 4:
Title: [taken from letterpress text on facing page:] Suite des premiers mouvemens. [top right of map, outside border:] N.o 4.

Creator: [bottom left of map, inside neatline:] de Lanselles.

The map is preceded by letterpress text on the left facing page, giving a key, 1-6, a-i, k-l, to the different troop positions on the map. The map is the same skeleton outline as nos 2 and 3.

Map 5:
Title: [No title; accompanying text appears to be missing. [Top right, outside border:] N.o 5

Creator: [bottom left of map, inside neatline:] de Lanselles.

The map is based on the same outline map as nos 2-4 with the addition of other topographical details such as woods, hachures, and place-names. The key to the letters and numbers on the map is missing.
