A plan of the fortifications of Bergen op Zoom, 1747. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with south-east to top.

A smaller-scale plan showing the bastions, ravelins and lunettes from the King William Bastion in the south-east as far as the Belvedere Bastion and Schlick battery in the south-west. Includes the outer French trenches and batteries. The attribution to Schultz is made on stylistic grounds. There is no key to the numbers on the plan which appear to relate to sprung mines.

The town of Bergen op Zoom, fortified by Baron Menno van Coehoorn (1641-1704; Dutch military engineer) and garrisoned under the command of General Isaac Cronström (1661-1752; a Swedish officer serving as General in Chief of the Dutch army), was besieged by the French army under the command of General Count Ulrich Löwendahl (1700-55; a German-born Danish officer serving in the French army), from 14 July to 18 September, when the fortified town was taken by the French.
