Antwerp was taken by Marshal Saxe in May 1746. This large-scale plan shows the saps and the lines of fire from the besieging French army into the citadel. The lines of fire from the field guns are drawn as solid lines, those from the mortars are dashed. The first parallel was dug on 21 May and the city surrendered on 31 May.
