A pictorial high oblique view, taken from the south, of the Austrian action which began the siege of Braunau (9 May-4 July 1743) until the Bavarian defender, Field Marshal Louis Frederick of Saxe-Hildburghausen (1710-59), surrendered. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with north to top.
A carefully and vividly coloured map with, top right, a vignette depicting four cherubs, three of whom hold aloft an oval portrait, possibly of the victorious Maria Theresa, Archduchess of Austria while the fourth plays two trumpets. The march routes of her Imperial army are shown by broad red-stippled lines, roads by narrow stipple lines.

Condition: one central fold line; some foxing. Verso: bottom centre, water-stained patch from the removal of Cumberland's cipher label; ghosting from the label remains: VOL IV/4?; there is also some ghosting from the cipher label of another item resulting from this map of Braunau having been laid down on top of another map for some time - either in a portfolio or in a volume
