A map of the fortifications of Dunkirk showing the extent of the demolished town and citadel, and the outlines of the demolished walls in 1743. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with west to top.

The yellow lines, running from the Canal de Berguere in the west round to the north-eastern end of the demolished citadel, indicate the proposed entrenchments for an entrenched encampment. The red lines indicate the former outlines of the fortifications, while the black lines show the alignment of the new build, following the old ditches in front of the covered ways.

Condition: six fold lines, previously folded to 12.6 x 10.0 cm; torn around the edges and contemporary? repairs made by pasting paper around the edges.
