A map of Fort St George, Madras (India) on the Gulf of Bengal, taken by the French, showing fort, walls and fortifications, plans of nearby houses, camps, and French ships in bay. War of the Austrian Successsion (1740-48). Oriented with west to top (compass rose).

Mahe de la Bourdonnais (Governor of Martinique) and Joseph-François Dupleix (Commandant-General of India, serving the French East India Company) combined forces to attack Madras which surrendered on 26 September 1746 after a short siege.
