A rough map of the encampment of the Allied army, under the command of Marshals d'Arenberg and Wade, on the west bank of the River Marque at Anstaing near Lille, 10 August 1744. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with west to top (cardinal points).

A roughly executed sketch; individual battalions are not shown. Troops are coloured according to nationality: British (red), Hanoverian (yellow), Dutch (blue), Austrian (green). Two pontoon bridges are shown upstream of Anstaing.

Additional text: [bottom left, in rectangular panel, a note that two Dutch battalions were detached to cover their general's headquarters at Gisoin [Cysoing]; bottom right, in irregularly-shaped panel, a key, A-I, K-S, to the positions of the English, Hanoverian, Dutch and Austrian troops:] EXPLICATION.
