A map of the encampment of the Allied army under the command of Duke d'Arenberg at Petegem, 4 October 1744. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with west-north-west to top.

In the same hand as RCINs 729011-12, 729014, 729017, 729020-22, 729030, 729037-8, 729047-50, 729052-8. Another copy of this map, in the same hand, is at RCIN 729052.

The army had marched to Petegem from Avelgem, a distance of about 10 km (6.2 miles). The encampment, on the west side of the River Escaut (Scheldt), extends for a distance of about 10 km (6.2 miles) from Heurn (Heurne 50°52'51"N 03°37'33"E) in the north, south-westwards past Oudenaarde, through Petegem to south of Elsegem (50°49'24"N 03°32'09"E). The regimental rectangles are coloured according to nationality: British (red), Hanoverian (yellow), Dutch (blue), Austrian (green).

Condition: no fold lines; some brown staining. Verso: some induced discolouration.
