War of the Austrian Succession (1740-8)
Includes much of the mapping collected by William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland, as Captain General of the British army
Map of encampment at Soignies, 1745 (Soignies, Walloon Region, Belgium) 50°34'44"N 04°04'16"E
1745 or laterPen, ink and watercolour on thin tracing paper, laid down on paper | Scale: 1:21,200 approx. | RCIN 729082
The map is unfinished. Some of the regimental rectangles are coloured according to nationality; there is no key to the colours, nor are the regiments named. It is probable, based on the colours used by Schultz on other maps and orders of battle, that the British are in red, Hanoverian in yellow, Austrians in green. The camp extends for a distance of about 5 km (3 miles) from Neufville (Neufvilles 50°34'15"N 04°00'01"E) to the south of Soignies.
This appears to be a preliminary sketch for the more finished map of the same encampment at RCIN 729081.
Condition: no fold lines.
