A map of the camp of the Allied army between Velzeke-Ruddershove [Velsicke] and Sint-Maria-Latem [Marielathem], 2-22 June 1744. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with north-east to top (cardinal points).
This is one of a set of six encampment maps of which the first one is missing (not present when catalogued in the early nineteenth century); see RCINs 729007.a-f. The linear extent of the camp was about 5.4 km (3.3 miles). The principal roads and settlements are drawn and distinction is made between cultivated land (shown by 'squares' of brown hatching drawn at different angles to represent ploughed fields), woodland, and scrub areas to each side of streams.
