Order of battle, 1746, Low Countries
1746 or laterPencil, pen, ink and watercolour on paper | 24.7 x 34.9 cm (image) | RCIN 730006
This shows a slightly different arrangement to RCIN 730005, with the addition of a key, below the order of battle, which explains the colour coding of the ‘Imperiaux’ (red/white), ‘Anglois’ (green/white), ‘Hannoveriens’ (yellow/red), ‘Hessois’ (white/blue), and ‘Hollandois’ (red/blue); this is followed by an ‘Extrait’ which gives the numbers of troops. In a continental hand.
The Dutch squadrons and battalions which were shown as Dutch on RCIN 730005, are here coloured as Hessian; equally, all the Hessian units are coloured as if they were Dutch. The colouring must, therefore, be in error on this order of battle.
Condition: nine fold lines, formerly folded to 7.0 x 8.2 cm; trimmed; several small tears along the folds. Verso: a few brown ink spots; surface dirt on outside fold panels.
