War of the Austrian Succession (1740-8)

Includes much of the mapping collected by William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland, as Captain General of the British army

GEORGE AUGUSTUS SCHULTZ (ACTIVE 1734-49)

Order of battle of Allied army at Worms, 1743

c.1743

Pencil, pen, ink and watercolour on paper | 29.2 x 13.6 cm (image) | RCIN 728118

A sketch of the order of battle of the Allied army at Worms, 30 August-25 September 1743. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). Oriented with north to top.

The attribution to Schultz is made on stylistic grounds. This rough field sketch of the order of battle, in which the Allied army encamped, would have formed part of the compilation materials for Schultz's Plan of all the Marches and Incampments of the Army of the Allies commanded by His Majesty the King of Great Britain from the Battle of Dettingen to the End of the Campain, in the Year 1743 at RCIN 728103.

This encampment, in order of battle, with the British (red), Hanoverian (yellow), Hessian (blue), and Austrian (green) all named, can be seen at a reduced scale on the maps at RCINs 728116 and 728117.
