Pencil, pen, ink and watercolour on paper; pricking through | 22.2 x 35.0 cm (image) | RCIN 729123

An order of battle of the Allied army commanded by the Grand Duke of Tuscany, some time on, or before, 1 August 1745. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48).

The attribution to Johann Carl Treu is made on stylistic grounds. The location of the journal referred to in the note about the reserve corps is not known.

Francis Stephen who commanded the troops (1708-65), was the Grand Duke of Tuscany (1737-65), Holy Roman Emperor (elected 13 September 1745), and husband of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria.

The order of battle is in two lines, commanded (under the Grand Duke of Tuscany) by Field Marshals Batthiani and Traun. The General Officers of the First Line are Feld Marechals de Camp Broun and Salm; Lieutenant-Generals Courrier, Grüne, Som[m]erfeldt, Soubiron, Schmissart, Picolomini, Geisruck, Lucesi, Carl Palfÿ; Major-Generals Gelhaÿ, Ham[m]erstein, Rodt, Gemming, Maÿdel, Luzen, Tirheimb, Ariostÿ, Lan[n]oÿe, Matha, Welwart, Osteim, Serbelloni; Brigadiers Wreden, Block, Rode v: Heckeren.

The General Officers of the Second Line are Lieutenant-Generals Holÿ, Lutzani, Druchtleben, Berenclau, Pirckenfeldt; Major-Generals Gross, Grohte, Rogendorff, Elberfeld, Klinckawstrum, Constant, Starenberg, L: Palfÿ, Breitlach; Brigadiers: Kruoeg, Hoofft v. Oÿen.

The reserve corps is commanded by Lieutenant-Generals Prizickowskÿ, Baroniaÿ; Major-Generals Trips, Bournoville, Minskÿ.

The colouring of the regimental rectangles appears to be consistent with the uniform colours.
