Order of battle of the Allied army on the Rhine, 1745

1745 or later

Pencil, pen, ink and watercolour on paper | 22.8 x 36.0 cm (image) | RCIN 729070

An order of battle in two lines of the Allied army (Austrian, Hanoverian and Dutch) under the command of Duke d'Arenberg on the Rhine in 1745. War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48).

It is possible that this has been drawn up by Johann Carl Treu; there are some stylistic similarities. The draughting is roughly done and it appears to give the same information, with the addition of one name and spelling differences, as RCIN 729069.

The General Officers of the First Line are Lieutenant-Generals Smissart, Sommerfeldt, Sallm, Chanclos, Courriere; Major-Generals Peziowskj, Mattha, Maider, Soubiron, Ariosti, Lannoÿ, Hammerstein; Brigadier Rode v. Hekeren.

The General Officers of the Second Line are Lieutenant-Generals Druchtleben, Geisrück; Major-Generals Constant, Klincowströhm, Grote; Brigadiers Hoft v. Oÿen, Maidell. The Corps de Reserve is commanded by Lieutenant-General Beresnaÿ.

The regimental rectangles appear to be coloured according to the jackets and facings.
